There are two war cemetries in the area. The main Prisoner of War Cemetry, the Kanchanaburi War Cemetry (Don Rak War Cemetry) is located in the main road (Sangchuto Road). Another is located in Chungkai which is about 5km west from Don Rak War Cemetry.
The Kanchanaburi War Cemetry was designed by Colin St Clair Oakes and is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. There are about 7,000 POWs buried here, mostly Dutch, Australian and British. There is also a mention of the 11 from India who are buried in Muslim cemetries.
The Chungkai War cemetry is located by the river and has about 2,000 POWs buried. You can reach there by taking a boat from the Bridge of River Kwai or even cycle there.
From Thai Garden Inn, it is easy to get to both the cemetries. You can either walk, bicycle or take a local tut tut to the Kanchanaburi War Cemetry. And for the Chungkai War Cemetry, you can also bicycle, take a local tut tut or go by boat.
